The imported shape model in MasterShip

The imported shape model forms the basis for making a construction design in MasterShip. It contains all the relevant geometrical elements, such as solids, surfaces, regions, and lines. The imported shape model is defined in the MasterShip Shape Definition (MSD), and follows from importing shape data.

Which SHIP-commands apply?

  • SHIPSHOWSURFACES: This command shows or hides groups in the MSD. This is useful for viewing the construction design in relation to the hull, or to quickly see which surfaces belong to which group. The yellow surface shown in figure 1 is displayed using this command.
  • SHIPDRAWSURFACES: This command is similar to SHIPSHOWSURFACES, but it actually draws the surfaces instead of only showing them. These drawn surfaces cannot be unhidden once drawn, but they can be modified or deleted. The gray surfaces shown in figure 1 established using this command.
  • SHIPSETACTIVEDATABASE: This command is used to change the active MSD. Sometimes, it is desired to have multiple MSDs in one project, and therefore it is also possible to switch to another one. Usually, only one MSD with multiple groups is used.

Next steps

The next steps after importing a shape model are typically part of the concept design stage in MasterShip. This could involve making a shell expansion drawing, defining sectional drawings and the assembly, or modifying the imported shape model before starting this phase.
