The 3D basic assembly model is a intermediate deliverable in the construction design process. It contains all the part & stiffener entities and solids that are made in the individual sectional drawings. It also forms a basis for further engineering carried out by the different building disciplines.
In MasterShip the 3D basic assembly model is presented in the assembly.dwg file. The model can be overviewed and managed in the assembly manager, and it can be exported for delivery to the different building disciplines.
Which SHIP-commands apply?
SHIPASSEMBLYMANAGER – in the assembly manager you can overview, change, add and remove drawings in all orthogonal directions (horizontal, longitudinal, frame and non-ortho). This is especially convenient if you miss certain drawings, or made a mistake or an incomplete assembly at the initial definition of the assembly via the Organiser. You can also import drawings as xRefs.
SHIPBIND3DMODEL – binds all the 3D solids from the 3D model drawing into one file and saves it at a specified location.
There’re some related articles in our knowledge base too, such as:
- Importing external items (SHIPEDITCUSTOMITEM);
- Making arrangement drawings (SHIPEDITARRANGEMENTDRAWINGS);
- Making CoG and weight calculations (SHIPLAUNCHORGANISER);
- Exporting the 3D model (SHIPBINDSOLIDMODEL, SHIPBIND3DMODEL).
Next steps
Once delivered, the 3D basic assembly model is used for making the detailed construction, arrangement drawings and the CoG and weight calculations, basic design does not provide accurate CoG data, but gives some preliminary information to the other building disciplines, which they can already work with and for exporting and further engineering by the building disciplines.
